Cancun Hosts 2013 Mexico Travel Industry Summit

The Cancun Convention & Visitor’s Bureau announces the success of the Mexico Travel Industry Summit, which took place at Le Blanc Spa Resort in Cancun on July 29 – 31.

Forty-six representatives of the most important tour operators, travel agents and wholesalers in North America and Mexico attended the summit. Backed by the Mexico Tourism Board and the Cancun CVB, the three-day event showcased the international communications program for Mexico and unveiled the country’s new tourism campaign, “Mexico: Live it to Believe it.”

The Mexico Tourism Board also released statistics that place Cancun as the No. 1 destination for foreign tourists in Mexico. This impressive achievement has been held since 2012, when over 2 million people enjoyed Cancun’s various amenities, beaches, nightlife, luxury, culture and one-of-a-kind gastronomy.

The Mexico Travel Industry Summit consisted of a welcome dinner and reception; a presentation of the Future of Mexico’s Tourism by the Mexico Tourism Board’s CEO, Rodolfo Lopez Negrete; a panel discussion with hoteliers that included the Cancun Hotel Association, AMResorts, Grupo Posadas, Iberostar, Palace Resorts and RIU; and round table discussions with top industry leaders.

In the first quarter of the year, the majority of foreigners to visit Cancun’s shores were U.S. tourists, at 952,000. Visitors from other countries included: Canada with 490,000, the United Kingdom with 93,000, Argentina with 58,000, France with 49,000, Brazil with 41,000, Russia with 36,000, Germany with 33,000, Spain with 31,000, Italy with 29,000, 21,840 from Mexico, and 446,000 guests from other countries around the world. International visitors during the first quarter of this year have increased by 8%, compared to the same time in 2012.

Cancun was chosen to host this important event for the second time due to its convenient connectivity, impressive amenities and the significance of being the top Mexican destination that attracts the largest amount of global visitors.
