These trends include more flexibility with packages and number of nights, further away destinations, and a ban on smoking.
The poll predicts that cruise lines will continue to introduce pick-your-own deal packages, including for drinks and onboard credits for use towards restaurants, spas and excursions.
A poll highlighted that 34% of cruisers are most interested by onboard credit.
River cruising will also become more flexible, with all-inclusive options or a la carte dining and additional excursions.
Shorter cruises, mainly those two to four days long, will increase in number in 2014. These will serve as taster experiences for new customers, and as introductions to new destinations and lines for existing cruisers.
According to Cruise Critic’s poll, 54% had either tried a short cruise or would consider one.
Additionally, the poll has also said that there will be an increase in further-afield destination cruises, including Japan, Australia and the Panama Canal, which celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2014.
Following changes in onshore laws, smoking will be banned on more ships in 2014. Disney Cruise Line, Cunard, P&O, Royal Caribbean, and Seabourn all revealed that they would ban some, if not all, smoking on balconies.
54% of those polled responded that smoking should be banned on balconies and in cabins, and 24% said it should be banned on all areas of a ship.
