The wildfire in Alaska’s Kenai National Wildlife Refuge spread rapidly covering a huge area compelling evacuation of people from the 1000’s of structures on Sunday, 25.05.14. The fire has been ranging for a week in Soldotna and engulfed 140,000 acres. The area is full of recreational cabins and second homes for retirees who are spending their holiday weekend, lives of all these people may be at risk.
So far no structure has been burned in fire; voluntary evacuation notice has been issued very close to the blaze on Sunday. Windy weather was pushing the blaze towards the residential areas.
The reason behind the blaze is not known yet but the authorities are suspecting that it could be caused by human action. 450 fire fighters are trying to control the blaze, which has been contained by 20%. Two helicopters have been sent by the Air National Guard to assist in water drops, also some helicopters are helping the fire fighters to control the fire.
