Summer day sailings with DFDS Seaways

Due to popular demand, DFDS Seaways, the award winning ferry operator, is re-introducing its Summer Day Sailings for the second year running. Departing from the Port of Tyne, passengers will have the chance to cruise up the North East Coast, visiting sites such as Tynemouth, St Mary’s Lighthouse, Whitely Bay, and Blyth’s wind farm from the comfort of one of the DFDS Seaways’ cruise ferries.

If you are looking for a unique family day out, our Summer Day Sailings have something for everyone; from learning about the local marine wildlife, to live music and entertainment onboard, or simply admiring the view from the outer decks while you take in the fresh sea air.

Boarding will begin at 10.30am before the ship leaves the port and heads down the Tyne and north along the coast. You can enjoy a relaxing sail up the coast, whilst enjoying a refreshing drink onboard and listening to the live entertainment onboard. Your sailing will include a delicious lunch in one of our onboard restaurants, which will comprise a fantastic array of freshly prepared hot and cold food in the all-you-can-eat buffet, including a special kids station laden with classic favourites such as spaghetti bolognaise, sausages, beans and chips.

The kids can also meet Jack the Pirate and play in the Kidz club, where our children’s entertainer will be arranging a variety of games and activities.

For those keen to discover more about the local wildlife of the North East Coast, there will be a presentation from a wildlife officer, from whale and dolphin charity ORCA, plus a deck watch, where the experts will help you spot the various wildlife, such as dolphins, minke whales, harbour porpoises and gannets!

You will arrive back at the Port of Tyne by 2pm.
Max Foster, passenger director of DFDS Seaways, comments: “It can be difficult to find original ideas to keep the family entertained over the Summer period and the day sailings offer a great alternative experience. With something to keep every member of the family entertained, the trip really is great value for money.”

Summer sailings depart Newcastle’s Port of Tyne on 10 and 17 August and are £32pp for adults and £16pp for children. The trip lasts around three hours, providing live entertainment, wildlife spotting and a presentation from ORCA wildlife officers, as well as a delicious buffet lunch.
