U.S. - International Air Passenger Traffic in 2014

International air traffic to/from the U.S. totaled 61.0 million passengers through April 2014, a six percent increase over the April 2013 year-to-date period.
U.S. citizen travel (26.2 million) was up seven percent edging up to 43 percent of all air traffic. Non-U.S. citizen air travelers (34.7 million) increased by six percent with market share at 57 percent.
U.S. airlines carried 32.4 million passengers, up five percent, however their share slipped to 53 percent. Foreign flags carried 28.6 million passengers, up eight percent from same period 2013.

The following, overseas, Canada and Mexico regions are ‘breakouts’ of international:
Overseas air traffic accounted for 43.7 million passengers, 72 percent of all international, and grew by six percent.
U.S. citizen travel (19.1 million) was up five percent and comprised 44 percent of overseas air traffic. Non-U.S. citizen air travelers (24.5 million) increased by six percent, 56 percent share.
U.S. airlines carried 22.3 million passengers, up four percent, their share dropping from 51 percent. Foreign flags carried 21.4 million passengers, up eight percent from April 2012 YTD.

North American markets accounted for 28 percent of U.S. international air traffic flows.
Canadian air traffic accounted for 9.1 million passengers, 15 percent of all international traffic, and increased by five percent.
U.S. citizen travel (1.7 million) increased six percent and comprised 19 percent of air traffic. Canadian, and other foreign national citizen air travelers transiting through Canada (7.4 million), increased by five percent. Market share remained at circa 81 percent.
U.S. flags carried 3.7 million passengers, up two percent from last year, and their share dropped to 41 percent. Foreign flags carried 5.4 million passengers, up seven percent.

Mexico air traffic accounted for 8.1 million passengers, 13 percent of all international traffic, and was up 12 percent.
U.S. citizen travel (5.3 million) increased 13 percent and comprised 65 percent of all air traffic. Mexicans, and other foreign national air travelers (2.8 million) transiting through Mexico, increased by 10 percent, but market share slipped to 35 percent.
U.S. flags carried 6.4 million passengers, up 10 percent from last year, but heir share slipped to 78 percent. Foreign flags carried 1.8 million passengers, up 20 percent increasing share to 22 percent.
