Domestic airlines passenger traffic kept growing – plus 33.6% yoy which makes almost 2 million people. Domestic airlines passenger traffic increased by 0.4% yoy and amounted to 2.2 million people.
The trend of redistribution of passenger traffic toward increasing domestic routes traffic persists. During the summer period there was a significant increase in passenger traffic to southern destinations: Crimea and Sochi.
During the three summer months, the total figure for passenger traffic amounted to 11.2 million people. In total, the international airlines passenger traffic of the airport during this summer amounted to 6.3 million people which is 3% more yoy. The domestic routes passenger traffic in June, July and August reached 5 million people, which is 30% more than for the same period of last year.
Following the first 8 months of 2014, 187,355 flights were operated, which is 7.3% more yoy. During the period from January to August passenger traffic increased by 9.1% yoy to 22.7 million people.
The domestic routes passenger traffic for 8 months of 2014 reached 10.1 million people, which is 21.4% more than for the same period of last year. The highest growth rate was typical for the following cities: Simferopol, Sochi, Makhachkala, Omsk, Kaliningrad. The passenger traffic on these routes amounted to 1.8 million people, which is 2.5 times more than for the same period of last year.
In January-August of 2014, the largest increase of 41.6% was registered in the following group of international destinations: Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh, Antalya, Kishinev, Larnaca. The passenger traffic there amounted to 2.8 thousand people. In total, the international airlines passenger traffic of the airport during the first eight months amounted to 12.6 million people which is 0.9% more yoy.
According to the latest information provided by ACI Europe, Moscow Domodedovo Airport is among the three largest European airports in terms of passenger traffic growth.
