Trivago reveals New Year’s Eve 2015 Travel Trends

Hotel search website trivago.co.uk has analyzed travel during the New Year period (26th December 2015 – 4th January 2016) and finds out New Year’s Eve 2015 Travel Trends. According to the data, UK users are only willing to pay an average of £154 per night for their New Year’s break. With many of these average prices much higher than that, it would be interesting to know how many people were deterred by the high prices. Here are the most popular destinations within the UK and abroad.
London is the most popular destination nationally, followed by Edinburgh and Manchester. Amsterdam is the most popular destination internationally, followed by Dublin and Paris.

Hotel prices have increased in each of the top ten national and internal destinations this New Year’s Eve. The largest price increases can be found in Edinburgh, where prices have increased by 332 per cent to an average of £458 on the 31st December.  The second largest increases are in Prague, where prices are up to 284 per cent to an average of £292. Large price hikes can also be found in Berlin (up 160 percent to £187) and Tenerife (up 155 per cent to £263).
Travel trends:
·         UK users are willing to pay an average of £154 for their New Year’s hotel stay. This is one of the highest rates, with only travelers from the United Arab Emirates (average of £199), Mexico (£175) and Switzerland (£171) willing to pay more.
·         UK users will stay at their chosen destination for an average duration of 5 nights. Norwegians, Argentinians and Finnish will take the longest New Year’s Eve break (average of 8 nights), while users from Indonesia, Japan, Thailand and Taiwan will take the shortest holiday (average of 3 nights).
·         4 star hotels were the most popular New Year’s choice among UK travellers (accounting for 40 per cent of searches), followed by 3 star (28 per cent) and then 5 star hotels (12 per cent).
