A British Airways passenger was charged to pay double as he and his son, travelling from Oslo asked for string strong tea instead of tea bags.

BA said the teabag on its short-haul services comes attached to a disposable cup.

According to a statement from BA spokesperson, “people can make their tea to the strength they choose. We serve the tea with the tea bag attached to each cup, but of course if a customer would like a refill of hot water then that is free of charge. And if someone has their own tea bag and a cup then they will be given complimentary hot water.”

British Airways said in 2016 that it would stop serving complimentary drinks and meals on short-haul flights to compete with the budget airlines; earlier they used to offer paid for Marks and Spencer food and drink.

In reply to the accusation from the passenger, BA said, “As a British airline we understand how important the perfect cup of tea is.”

BA was in headlines last year when a staff tried to ban a passenger from using more than one teabag in a guest lounge at Heathrow airport.

BA has been accused by complaints from passengers that it is becoming more of a budget airline despite its high prices.
